| The Network |
The Network is a national consortium of IHE professionals aimed at sharing and disseminating information to help curb alcohol and other drug abuse as well as violent behavior among college students. Begun in 1987 by the US Department of Education, the Network is a voluntary membership organization whose member institutions agree to adhere to a set of standards aimed at reducing alcohol and other drug problems. Welcome to the new format for The Network's News from the Front. For those of you not familiar, you are receiving this online publication because your institution is a member of The Network Addressing Collegiate Alcohol and Other Drug Issues.
This edition provides you with helpful information in your AODV prevention work. As we move into the summer session at many campuses, it is important to remember to include strategizing on alcohol, other drug, and violence prevention in your summer strategic planning efforts. First science informed us that alcohol is good for the heart; the antioxidants in red wine promote longevity. This was followed by research that pointed to the health benefits enjoyed by those choosing to imbibe moderately as being superior to those who abstain, and now new research suggests that ethanol may augment the naturally occuring antioxidants found in fruit juices.
